Lets get this out in the open… I am a sucker for a good MC ( Motorcycle Club ) book. I did not know this genre existed until I stumbled upon a book by another author. A good MC book will have a romance but also a great sense of family in the MC and most books are a part of a series that follows the club over time. Plus I love the strong Alpha male meets the Sassy Heroine troupe, it’s like cat nip for me in books. Now there is a difference between being an Alpha and a Asshole. The difference for me is that the Alpha wants a strong women who has backbone and challenges him but will also allow him to open doors for her and such. In the MC world think of a knight in shining leather with a bike not a horse. The Asshole is just a jerk who thinks women are the ” weaker sex”. Anywho enough about my views on Alpha males in romance novels.
This book is the second book in the spin off series written by Piper Davenport. It can be read as a stand alone but I recommend the rest of the series, why you ask, well because it is awesome! I read this book in almost one sitting, I laughed out loud and may have clapped with joy at some scenes. Here is a short synopsis of the story. The story is based around the Dogs of Fire MC that is set in Portland Oregon. Poppy and Devon have been fighting a crush on each other for years (Also several books!). Devon is a new member of the club and Poppy is off limits until something threatens the club and Poppy. Then all bets are off and romance and action ensue. Ok, so you can read a better synopsis on the Amazon profile of the book, but I never want to give away to many details. I personally don’t like reviews that basically recap the whole story, so if that is what you are looking for then this site is not for you.
Alright what I loved about this book is Poppy, she is sassy and awesome full stop. Now don’t get me wrong, I love Devon and the rest of the characters but I think Poppy is my spirit animal. I loved that she is strong and takes her future into her own hands. She has some amazing one liners that had me laughing, not a polite giggle, but laughing out loud! What she says in the book are things that I think all women are thinking but never say. I also like that she is not shy about her sexuality. She is not over the top but she is honest about her needs and does not apologize for it. She is a refreshing character and it made the book that much better. This book is an MC book but not as dark and gritty as other books in the genre. The Dogs of Fire are not a 1% MC , basically they are an MC but don’t engage in illegal activities-ish. So this is a great book to start with if you have never read an MC book but are wanting to try one out. But this book does have action, suspense and angst. Plus some Hot as in H-A-W-T love scenes.
So I recommend this book if you are looking for a sassy heroine, alpha hero, action, suspense, steamy love scenes and a great story!
